Tangiene grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and obsessively drew and painted people and animals from her imagination. She graduated from Emily Carr University in Vancouver with a BFA, focusing on photograph based oil portrait painting. Post-graduation work includes abstract and portrait drawing, social media experimentation, curating, photo documentation and soft crafts.
Since 2020, she participated in the FARR residency at the Eastern Edge Gallery in St. John’s, received a new/emerging artist grant from ArtsNL and won the Arts and Letters award in the senior visual arts division. Tangiene has been a jury member for provincial art awards and is also a board member of two Western Newfoundland art groups: L.A.W.N and The Cloud Factory ARC.
Most recently, she was awarded an Explore and Create Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts for her current project, “Monsters” which focuses on image trauma resulting in fear of the outside world. She is scheduled to exhibit this collection at the Grenfell Art Gallery in September 2022.
Tangiene currently resides in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.
